Total Aid and Nonfederal Loans in Current and Constant Dollars and Percentages over Time
Total grant aid for postsecondary students increased by 109% in inflation-adjusted dollars over the decade from 2001-02 to 2011-12. Total loans, including both federal and nonfederal loans, increased by 104% over the decade.

- Total subsidies for postsecondary students from federal education tax credits and deductions increased threefold from $5.9 billion (in 2011 dollars) in 2001-02 to $18.2 billion in 2011-12.
- Federal Work-Study funds decreased by 24% in inflation-adjusted dollars, from $1.3 billion to $972 million over the decade.
